Now this is a cool post, good to see some people can work from home well, even with the wife :)

A couple of issues I would have would be, investing in an imac, is it good to distinguish between the laptop and the computer? Are you tempted to bring the macbook in for Dr Phi :) If you go for two then how do you synch your work between the two??

How do you stop working in the evening, being a developer I'm constantly thinking of solutions to problems, ideas, and with a couple of clients down under getting a few late night change request emails.

@Kevin The TV just sounds Dangerous which reminds me I must bring my Wii over :)
I've looked at the iMac's and kinda worry about what it'd be like to just go back to the MacBook Pro when travelling / working from Ireland so I'll probably hold off for a bit on that front
Had to look up the DanBo bit .. very cool :D .. I wanted to get some lego men but haven't found the ones I want here (though I might just have to bite the bullet)

@Keith Thanks Keith ( I'm now seeing the typos and mistakes in the post ... I must read over again before posting :D ) Will hopefully get some pics up today or tomorrow of the "competed" office

@Peter Luckily the lure of the couch / tv downstairs doesn't affect me too much as its all spanish TV and the Wii is in Ireland :D

The cat is great ... you don't have to walk him .. and he sits happily behind my laptop or comes up for a cuddle (amazingly he knows when I'm really stressed and just comes up) so definitely something to think about (and I used hate cats)

Very good post James. I've had my own office for a few years too. It's great for working in but unfortunately there's also a very comfy couch and TV in the next room which often lures me out of working in the office.

I wouldn't have the time for a cat/dog but I recently got a fish tank for the office and 3 gold fish which helps me de-stress.

I'd definitely recommend anyone who is self-employed gets a proper office space without a TV or anything else to disturb you. There's no comparison.

Nice post James, love the insight into your freelance life and office pics never go astray.

I might do the same :)

Mine consists of:

A single, large(ish) table (which has a higher plane on which to place monitors and store things underneath which is neat!)
A rather uncomfortable chair, which needs to be replaced ASAP
A 24" iMac
A 15" Macbook Pro
A 19" monitor hooked up to a self-built uber PC (on the floor)
A plethora of mice, keyboards, mouse pads, hard drives and for some reason, loose change.
An Apple Time Capsule
A Lamp
A whiteboard for the wall in front of me to jot notes down on... especially when working on large projects with lots of crappy PHP or Java...
Next to it I have a 40" Samsung 6-series TV pointed in my direction with a PS3, 360 & Wii plugged into it. You know, for research :)

My Mascot is a nice Solid Snake figure thing. I do also have a DanBo thing. But he's really just a photography model :)
